Denial is not new: from flat earth to climate change.

ree

Climate denial feels maddening. How can anyone ignore what’s in front of our eyes — melting glaciers, rising seas, burning forests?

But denial is not new. Every age resisted truths that demanded change.

The Church silenced astronomers who dared to suggest the Earth was not the centre of the universe. Explorers who believed the Earth was round were mocked, even punished. For centuries, evidence meant little when it threatened comfort or power.

Today’s denial follows the same script. It’s not about lack of data. It’s about fear — fear of loss, fear of change, fear of responsibility.

That’s why facts alone will never be enough. We need new narratives of courage and possibility. Stories that make action feel like an invitation, not a punishment.

Truth always outlives denial. The only question is: how much damage do we allow before it does?
